Wintertime and the living is easy

‘Tis the season…to be crazily busy. I’m sure you all are too. We have a lot going on with the holidays, but this weekend was the anniversary of our first date, so we took a little break Saturday morning, got coffee at Dunkin’ and went for a walk on the beach. It was glorious! Now mind you, it was 64 degrees and in Florida that is COLD but we survived the weather. After this little beach trek, we decided the dreaded time for making the holiday calendar and Christmas budget had come. We do this every year and I highly recommend it. I pull up a google calendar and we map out every single thing we have going on until after the first of the year, including what days we have off and boring stuff like fitting in doctors’ appointments. We also go through and decide on a budget for Christmas and how much we’re going to spend each week and in what order we’re buying ( we do a Secret Santa in early December so those gifts have to be bought first, then we mail things to out of town family so those gifts are bought next and so on) After all of the information is input, I then share it with the boss lady. It really helps with keeping us on the same page while we navigate the last months of the year.

This is also how I keep track of all things book related. On a paper calendar that hangs on the office wall I have deadlines that I’ve set for myself, actual deadlines for other projects, new release dates for those books I’m pining after, and online events for authors I follow. I like my system and it seems to work for now. One of my antagonists in Beyond the Lightning Bugs is a fanatic about her schedule and tries to have a plan for every minute of her day but she soon finds out that plans can easily be ruined.
