Where are you, Christmas?

I think I forgot how much I love Thanksgiving. We woke up on Thursday morning to a gorgeous, deep orange sunrise, taking it as a sure sign of a wonderful day to come. We let the kid sleep in and began our meal prep, making inside jokes and sharing memories of Thanksgivings past. As much as we love the holidays, they can be bittersweet for both of us. I only teared up a few times joking about how mad my Grandma would be that we weren’t having cranberries at our Thanksgiving. When we stopped to take a break, I sat on the couch next to the open window and watched the stillness in our neighborhood, reminding myself of all the things I’m grateful for. I am really & truly very grateful on a daily basis for the way my life is right now. I have a small but supportive circle, the best wife & kid anyone could ever ask for, and I am genuinely happy. This doesn’t mean I’m not a ball of stress sometimes or have unhappy times, I do but I can generally come out of those negative situations fairly easily and for that I am also extremely grateful. I also believe and try to live by the sayings “Things could always be worse” and “Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.” But the long Thanksgiving weekend is coming to an end now. It was a glorious four days off from my “day job.” I got to spend time with my family, write, relax, eat, and of course, decorate for Christmas.

The “end-of-the-year” holidays are my favorite time of year. For me it starts on October 1st when we can decorate for Halloween and I secretly begin planning Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s ideas. (I make a lot of lists) I love Thanksgiving and saying out loud what we’re thankful for, and then there’s Christmas. I adore Christmas. Not just the actual day of Christmas but the whole season. Buying gifts for anyone is always such fun for me but especially Amy and Stephen. Also, I’m planning to have my Christmas story released by this time next year! (It’s a hilarious story called “Stealing Christmas” that have a few real-life tidbits, dedicated to my “twin-cousin” Teresa. You won’t want to miss it!) Christmas music is my jam and I, unapologetically, listen to it starting around the second week in November. It’s not purposeful. I don’t do it too cause my Scrooge friends headaches, I just love it and only get it for a few weeks of the year. Let your happy, jolly friends have their fun! I’m my best self when I’m planning, and this is the best time of year for it.

So, what’s next for you? We are busy, busy, busy until New Year’s Day! Every Friday & Saturday is booked through the rest of 2019, not to mention some random Tuesday and Thursdays thrown in there and when it’s all said and done, when all the presents are unwrapped and all the candy canes are eaten we will celebrate the end of 2019 with friends, a fire, and a sweet midnight kiss.
