When life gets in the way

Writer's picture: Lori JosephLori Joseph

I just took a Buzzfeed test, turns out I’m 100% a witch Even when I should be writing Yeah, I got word problems, that’s the human in me Click, click then I search ‘em that’s the writer in me

I'm mildy obsessed with Lizzo right now. Her lyrics are powerful, full of girl power & body positivity. She's taking up a lot of room in my brain right now...along with Halloween; decorations, costumes, end of the month parties & it's also my best friend's birthday month & there's a Pride celebration coming up, &  I just started a new job, & oh yeah, I'm writing a book. Wow! Life does get it the way. But what does it get in the way of? Mostly, in my opinion, of things we know we should be doing but use "life happeneings" as an excuse not to. I want to start a diet but do I really have the time & energy to implement something like that? I need to clean and organize the house before Halloween is over and we start pulling out all of the Christmas decorations but do I have the time for such an overwhelming task when I should be using that time to write?  I forgot to order those rainbow eye lashes to wear to the Pride parade, no worries there's always next year, right? Life doesn't get in the way of anything, all these things you have going, I hate to tell you, this IS life. My character, Hannah, in Taking Initiative (a short story in the Area 51 Anthology: "We know the truth, do you?") learns this lesson quickly. Hannah is down on her luck and knows she needs to fix it. When she meets her new team members she realizes all the things that have happened in her life are what lead her to the GEDI. Hannah also learns that you never know what other people are going through and things can always be worse.
