New year, not necessarily new me

Writer's picture: Lori JosephLori Joseph

In case you didn’t know, it’s a new year! While I don’t make “resolutions,” I do have goals & things I’m excitedly anticipating for this year. Some of them are things I didn’t finish last year or things I want to accomplish before I’m 40! (I’ll be 36 this year so I still have time)

Implementing & maintaining a healthy lifestyle: Yeah, I need to lose weight and be able to walk upstairs without losing my breath. A healthy lifestyle also means agreeing to knee surgery, keeping up with my mental health, and getting new glasses. I have decided to take a brief break from drinking, with the exception of a few pre-determined days, until my birthday. I haven’t had anything to drink but water in the New Year, all 5 days of it, and I’m excited to know that all the weight I’ll be losing will come from having to get up and go to the bathroom 378 times a day!

Besties Wedding: As you know, my bestie is getting married at the end of April and we have SO much to do! Bridal shower, bachelorette party, flowers, cake tasting…there goes that healthy nonsense (kidding!)

Finish these damn books: I have been slacking with a capital S but I’m not sure why. Making excuses is easier than trying to figure out what the bad guy (or girl) is going to do next, I guess. I am truly almost done with “Beyond the Lightning Bugs” and then I’ll be working on “Taking Initiative” expanding the story that is in the Area 51 anthology “We Know the Truth, Do you?” When that’s done it’ll be about time for Space Coast Book Lovers, and I can start working on “Stealing Christmas.”

Space Coast Book Lovers: Aahhh…I have secrets. Exciting and fun secrets! I cannot comment further. You’ll either find out at SCBL in June or you’ll see all my obsessive pictures from afar.

Work on the new house: The “new house” is almost a year old now. We moved in on March 30th of last year and have done very little updating. We didn’t paint or pressure wash, but we did cut down some trees and bushes so that progress, right?

Travel & family time: The Joseph clan loves to travel. The kid and wife both got to fly for the first time in 2018 and fell in love with it. Since we bought the house in 2019, we did much less traveling and we’ve decided that’s not okay with any of us, so we’re planning a few weekend trips, one longer driving trip, & one longer flying trip in 2020.

I have a few other smaller things I’d like to get done in 2020 but these are the ones that stand out. If you made goals for this year, I hope you meet & exceed all of them. If you didn’t make goals, I hope you just have a wonderful year! Either way, I hope 2020 is better than ever before.
