I Chose You

Tuesday is mine & Amy’s 3 year wedding anniversary. We’ll be celebrating by sitting in the living room & staying away from people. No gifts this year, no fancy dinner out, no matching tattoos but I’m ok with it…I guess I have to be, I don’t have a choice.

In all reality I don’t need any of that anyway. I know it’s cliché but I only need Amy. She makes my world a better place, she makes me a better person all around, & I know I wouldn’t be where I am in life without her. If you know Amy (or me) then you know she’s a fantastic cook, an avid animal lover, & has a huge heart. What you probably don’t know is how she always puts Stephen first, then me, & takes care of herself last, she always keeps the house immaculately clean ( except she doesn’t fold laundry), & she didn’t speak to me for a whole day when I brought the newest kitten home…even though she LOVES this cat now.

Amy is the best person I know, we balance each other in a way no one else could for either of us. Here comes another cliché…she truly is my soul mate & best friend. Our relationship has always been full of fun. We laugh a lot & we deal with hardships with humor as well. It works for us. I was in a weird place in my life when we met but I’m so grateful for the events that brought Amy into my life, even that first date when she stood me up!

When all this nonsense is over we’re going to spend a week lying on a beach in the Keys.

How’re you holding up through all? Are you doing anything fun? We’ve been handling self-isolation pretty well. My knee is definitely not 100%, walking still hurts but we’ve been taking daily walks up our road & back. I set a goal to get in 10,000 steps a day but I’ve only hit it once this week.

Yesterday was a good day for us. It felt almost normal. Amy smoked ribs, Stephen took his bike apart & spray painted it, & I laid in the sun & read. It was wonderful. I had made the declaration that I was going to try to stay off social media…did not happen. I also claimed that I was going to finish Beyond the Lightning Bugs…fam, this is the first time I’ve written since we’ve been on lock down. BUT I’m feeling more normal now, I think I was a little panicky last week.

Some bad things have happened, my bestie had to postpone her wedding & we found out that my 5-year-old cousin has the virus. Everyone in their house is sick but they’re giving daily updates & everything seems okay. Some good things have come from this too! People are being very neighborly. Families are getting to spend some quality time together, & from what I understand everyone staying put is reducing pollution & apparently the crime rate so yay! I hope you, your friend, & family are staying healthy. Physically & mentally.

How are you staying sane? Are you reading? Doing anything creative with your time?
