I started NaNoWriMo (it's National Novel Writing Month!) successfully this week, though not without some trepidation on my part. I've just barely exceeded my personal goal for the weekend but hey, there's still time. I'm working on "Beyond the Lightning Bugs," but a revamped version. After my Papa passed away my story took a weird turn, then another, and finally it had taken so many turns I didn't know the direction I was going anymore! So, I started over and I'm absolutely delighted with where this story is going. It's happy and sad but at least it has balance now. And it's still about family and about friends which of course got me thinking about my family and my friends and how incredibly blessed I am. (Here comes some mush).
First and foremost, and forever more, my wife (and my hot PA I'm always talking about) My wife is astounding! She is truly my biggest fan and the most critical part of my tribe only next to our son. My wife is generous, gracious, helpful, an amazing cook, a fantastic mother, and I worship the ground she walks on. I often wonder how I got this fortunate. And then there's that kid I mentioned. Our son is turning into an awesome human. Stephen is kind, mostly well mannered, hilarious, and loving. He's always been such an easy kid, I'm secretly glad we only have one. My dad is my second biggest fan. His unconditional love and support have gotten me to where I am in my life. I have two best friends who are also wildly supportive and indulgent, in different ways. One flips tables and the other picks them up after they've been flipped. I have wonderful cousins, aunts, and uncles who have all helped turned me into the person I am today, someone I'm damn proud of. I have a large group of author friends, some closer than others, who never fail to come through with solid advice and astounding wisdom (most of these people I've met over the years through SCBL, just another reason to check it out) In BTLB, Kelly and Liberty have to work together with their tribe to help solve a puzzle and save someone they love. I know if I was in the same situation, I could call up any one of the above people and they would be there without hesitation, although once they found out they were dealing with a pyschotic, ancient Voodoo Priestess intent on killing everyone I'd ever loved, they might bounce. Find your tribe, be grateful for them, make sure they know how much you appreciate their love and support and make sure to show your love and
support in return.
